Born in Vienna Alexandra Rivas studied Singing at the State Conservatory of her home town with Yevgeny Nesterenko, amongst others, attending operetta master classes under the direction of Lucia Meschwitz. As a recitalist and concert artist she appeared in the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus in a concert performance of A. Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher as well as Aleko by S. Rachmaninov under the guidance of Alexander Lazarev, sang G. Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder with the Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein and appeared in a concert performance of Parsifal led by Dennis Russel Davies at the Brucknerhaus in Linz. She sang W.A.Mozart’s Requiem for the Opera House of Palma de Mallorca and G.F.Haendel’s The Messiah at the Auditorio de Castellón in Spain, a country where she has offered recitals in cities like Barcelona, Santiago de Compostela, Avilés, Gijón and Murcia. In Moscow the mezzo was conducted by Maestro Vladimir Fedoseev performing Beethoven’s 9th Symphony opposite Robert Holl with the Tchaikovsky Radio Symphony Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. Since 1995 Alexandra Rivas has been engaged by many Opera Houses throughout Spain like Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo where she interpreted with great success, amongst many other roles, ”Stephano“ in Ch.Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette opposite Rolando Villazón, ”Beppe“ in P.Mascagni’s L’Amico Fritz with Miriam Gauci and José Bros, ”Olga“ in P. Tchaikovsky’s Yevgeny Onegin opposite Carlos Álvarez and Kaludi Kaludov, ”Siebel“ in Ch. Gounod’s Faust, ”Mallika“ in L. Delibes’ Lakmé and ”Cherubino“ in W. A. Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Manuel Lanza. In France the mezzo was engaged as ”Cherubino“ in Le Nozze di Figaro and ”Dorabella“ in Cosí fan tutte as well as ”Gymnasiast“ in A.Berg’s Lulu at the theatre of Metz. She appeared opposite Carlos Álvarez again as ”Filipevna“ in Yevgeny Onegin as well as ”Enriquetta“ in V.Bellini’s I Puritani at the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga, as ”Siebel“ in Faust as well as "Teresa" in La Sonnambula,"Mercedes" in Carmen and ”Larina“ in Yevgeny Onegin at the Opera Festival of La Coruña and again in I Puritani and Carmen at the Palacio de Festivales in Santander. In Madrid she sang ”2nd Magd“ in R. Strauss’s Elektra at the Teatro Real and interpreted the roles of ”Fortuna“, ”Pallade“ and ”Venere“ in C. Monteverdi’s L’Incoronazione di Poppea at the Teatro de la Zarzuela under the baton of Maestro Alberto Zedda. The Austrian mezzo sang the leading role in E. Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Sevilla where she had appeared as ”Visconte Morcerf“ in J. Massenet’s Le Portrait de Manon before. At the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao she sang ”Bersi“ opposite Daniela Dessí and Fabio Armiliato in U.Giordano’s Andrea Chénier led by Renato Palumbo and appeared there again in A. Dvorak’s Rusalka as well as in O.Respighi’s La Bella Dormente nel Bosco, in W.A. Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte ("2nd Dame") , with Jean-Christophe Spinosi conducting, in R.Strauss’ Elektra ("3rd Magd") directed by Peter Konwitschny and in R.Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos. Great Arena Productions of Carmen (”Mercedes“) and La Traviata (”Flora“) led her to the Netherlands, Germany (Munich, Hamburg), Switzerland (Zürich) and China (Shanghai). At the Teatro Villamarta in Jerez de la Frontera she sang ”Stephano“ in Romeó et Juliette again.
